Upchuck – Tired
Atlanta’s Upchuck opens their October 3rd album “I’m Nice Now” with “Tired”, a blistering takedown of social injustice fatigue. KT’s vocals spiral over thunderous drums and scorching guitars, confronting the endless news cycle with lines like “How many times I gotta tell ’em that our pockets cryin’?”
Produced by Ty Segall at Sonic Ranch Studio and recorded live to tape with minimal overdubs, the track captures Upchuck’s raw power. KT channels generational frustration into a sharp critique, ending with the threat, “It feels right scaring you.” Drummer Chris Salgado adds Spanish vocals elsewhere on the album, blending cumbia influences with their punk assault.
The band has built a reputation as what Rolling Stone called “a sonic cannon” and NPR dubbed “punk Beastie Boys.” After extensive touring that tightened their sound, they’re ready to unleash their most vital statement yet. KT puts it simply: “Being a POC, by default, you’re gonna have that rage.”
“Tired” follows previous singles “Plastic,” “Forgotten Token,” and “Un Momento” from an album that promises to channel collective anger into incendiary anthems. They’ll support it with extensive US and European tours running through November.
